How it works

1

Pick the apps that pull you in

Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, the shopping app you open without deciding to.

2

Get a pause instead of a habit

Open one and a full-screen countdown appears — 10, 20 or 30 seconds. Long enough to notice you reached for it without meaning to. Then go back, or open it anyway and get a few minutes before the pause returns.

3

Keep a not-to-do list

Most apps track what you want to start doing. Pausea tracks what you want to stop. Write rules in your own words, mark each evening kept or slipped, and watch the hours add up.

It cannot read your screen

To notice that you opened a blocked app, Pausea uses Android's accessibility service — registered with canRetrieveWindowContent="false", so Android never hands it screen content at all. It is told the name of the app coming to the foreground, and nothing else.

No messages, no passwords, no browsing history, no analytics. There is no account, no server and no sync: everything you write stays in a database on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall.

Questions

Does it actually stop me opening things?

Not by force, and that is the point. Pausea adds a few seconds of friction at the moment you reach for an app, which is usually enough to notice you were not really deciding. If you still want it, you can open it anyway — the pause simply comes back when the grace window ends.

Can it read my messages or passwords?

No. The accessibility service is registered so that Android never gives it screen content — it is told the name of the app coming to the foreground and nothing more. Nothing it sees is stored or sent anywhere.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no server and no sync. Everything lives on your phone and disappears when you uninstall the app.

What happens if I stop paying?

You keep every rule and blocked app you already set up. The free limits apply only to adding new ones, so nothing you have made is ever taken away or hidden.

Will it drain my battery?

No. Pausea does nothing until Android tells it an app came to the foreground — there is no polling and no background scanning. It asks to be excluded from battery optimisation only so the system does not put it to sleep and quietly stop blocking.

Is it on iPhone?

Not yet. Pausea is Android only, because the pause screen relies on an Android capability that iOS does not offer in the same form.
